Wedding Weekend and Color Run 2013!

I am sitting on my couch with a stomach full of radicchio salad and sesame tofu, recovering from one of the greatest weekends of my young life. There was so much compressed into two short days, it felt like I was spinning around and around across a dance floor, making my way through everything that went on, and now I’ve finally come to a stop. I’ll fill you in πŸ™‚

Saturday morning was just a jumble of activity as I scrambled to fit everything in before 2:30- our scheduled departure time to head up to my friend’s wedding. I somehow managed a yoga class, dropping the kids off with Ally’s Mum, Barre3, an afternoon meetup with Ally, and throwing myself into a dress for the wedding. It was busy and so, so exciting!

Britt, Ash and I met at their house at 2:30(ish) and made our way up in our usual style- late, and putting our makeup on at every stoplight. Some things never change.

Alyssa’s wedding was….wow. I’m not even sure I can summon the words. It was something out of a dream- the entire thing was outdoors, but there were tents set up all around the property with beautifully set seating and bars/food stations. Of course, the best part of the entire day/night was the ceremony. It was so beautiful to see my friend standing next to the man she loves and exchanging vows. They both looked so happy- everyone was so happy- it was totally contagious, and one of the most joyful environments I’ve ever experienced. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Best dates ever? πŸ˜€

I felt so fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful day, to see so many old friends from years ago and laugh and sing and dance in the mud…it was truly spectacular.

We left early-ish, because Britt and I had to get up and run this morning. I was asleep by 11, which was really necessary if I was going to get through this morning without passing out.

The Color Run: one of my favorite things. Seriously, better than Christmas, because COLOR MADNESS! My alarm went off at 4:45, and by 4:50 I was on my mat in the sunroom, down-doggin’ it and stretching out in preparation for 3.1 miles of fun.

IMG_1712

I fueled up with a slice of flax oatbran smeared with raspberry chia jam- chased down with three spirulina tablets and a bottle of chia coconut water, my go-to pre-race fuel. We were on the road at 5:35, feeling fresh and way too excited!

IMG_1718

6:15, and ready to run, along with THOUSANDS of other runners! It was just as exciting as last year- so much wonderful energy!

We were in the start chute by 6:45. Seriously.

You could see the first color station (yellow) from the start line. They let us out in waves, and we were in the 3rd or 4th. We took off, and were almost immediately sprayed down with bright yellow cornstarch. Woohoo!

Followed by pink…

…blue…

…and orange:

One of my favorite parts of this run is seeing the clouds of color up ahead. It’s so much fun to speed along and pound pavement, running toward a giant cloud of neon.

IMG_1775

And then, suddenly….

IMG_1785

…it was over! I swear, when I came around the last curve and saw the finish line, I almost stopped and turned around. It just felt so short, I was sure that there was another mile to go. Apparently miles fly by when you’re having fun?

Of course, the best part of the Color Run is the afterparty. Words don’t do it justice:

Dang. I was a MESS, which was hilarious because we had been mud dancing the night before at the wedding, and I had just taken a shower a few hours prior to wash all the mud off. And then this. Note- the color takes a day or two to wash off. I am still stained blue, which prompted some questions in yoga class πŸ˜‰

Another Color Run, another great weekend…I was glad to get to yoga tonight, I needed some help decompressing after all the excitement. Tomorrow is going to be a lazy day at home- I’ve got another full weekend ahead of me, so I intend to keep this week as low-key as possible. Yeah…right ;D

Here’s to happiness…to life, and to living it up with the best of the best. My weekend wouldn’t have been half as wonderful if it hadn’t been for the people I spent it with.. Everyone is already talking about next year, and getting a big group together to run. They’re hosting one in Atlantic City in October, and I’ve got discount coupons. Twice in one year?

You know I’m all over that sh*t! ;D

Color Run 2013 Packet Pickup.

IMG_1550

Packet pickups are one of my favorite parts of racing. It’s so exciting seeing so many runners getting together and revving up for the race ahead, not to mention all the free swag! This is my second year running in the Color Run (and only the second year for the Color Run!), and it was fun to think back to last year’s pickup.

IMG_2389

Last year, packet pickup was at the starting line location, in front of the Philly Art Museum. I remember it being very crowded, which meant long lines for bib pickup and swag grab. This year was much more relaxed- pickup was at the King of Prussia Sports Authority, and it was relatively tame. We were in and out in under fifteen minutes!

IMG_1549

I started getting excited as soon as I saw the signature flags πŸ™‚

IMG_1551

Just like last year, I brought my sidekicks along for the ride πŸ™‚

IMG_2376

J and C, Color Run packet pickup 2012! Fun fact: Jack actually wore that same shirt this year, too, along with a new pair of blue TOMS. Total accident!

I think they’re beginning to get used to the racing scene πŸ˜‰ Jack helped me pick out gear, while Carolyn hung out in her usual spot- my right arm. The Color Run definitely has the best gear of any 5k:

Last year’s pickup:

IMG_2434

In the runner’s packet:

IMG_3483

Official race t-shirt! This thing is SOFT! Definitely not the cheap-o unisex t-shirts most races use. So comfy!

IMG_3475

Racing bib, ready to get all colored up (and then pinned on the cork board!)

IMG_3494

Temporary tattoo and pins.

IMG_3495

Another temporary tattoo- this one is new from last year!

IMG_3491

Colored sunscreen πŸ™‚ THIS stuff is going to be awesome!

IMG_3493

Sweatband…

IMG_3515

…and last year’s!

IMG_3489

Wristband- for the after party, I assume.

IMG_3486

And, of course, color packets! I got purple- my favorite color!

I also picked up some official gear. This is my very favorite race, and I love using my Color Run stuff throughout the year, remembering races past and looking forward to the next one πŸ™‚

IMG_3492

Another bumper sticker!

IMG_3490

And a window decal. My car is pretty much a rolling Color Run advertisement.

IMG_3498

Ribbon hair ties!

IMG_3499

Supersoft pink v-neck!

IMG_3503

Color run drawstring bag! These are soooo much nicer than last year- they’re made with a sturdier fabric and have a zipper pocket inside.Β Here is last year’s (looking a little shabby):

IMG_3514

Also, I picked up a shirt for Carolyn. Jack got one last year, and it still fits him, so I thought it was only fair that Carolyn get one this year!

IMG_3485

So cute!

This weekend is totally rocking my world- I’m jumping out of my skin for the run tomorrow, but tonight I’m carpooling with three of my oldest, closest friends to attend the wedding of another old, dear friend of ours, along with a huge group of friends from high school and college. It is going to be such a wonderful celebration, so it’s hard to look too much forward to the Color Run with a beautiful wedding to attend tonight!

On a smaller note, LOOK!

IMG_3512

A ripening tomato! Okay, to be honest, I’m actually not sure if it’s ripening or ripe, because I’m not sure what variety of cherry tomato it is (yellow or red). Whoops! I’m going to wait a few days and see how it looks. I am so excited to have my own tomatoes- they’re a real summer treat. For us, tomatoes are like strawberries- buying them out-of-season feels like tossing our money away. They just aren’t the same as freshly-picked, in-season fruit, so we wait and enjoy them in-season.

I have to scramble the kids together and pack them up for an afternoon at my friend’s mother’s house. They have an afternoon of tea parties and digging in the garden to look forward to, and I have yoga, Barre3, a shower, and an afternoon rendezvous with a friend, all before heading out to the wedding at 2:30. I should also clean out my car. Eeek! Here’s to another great weekend! πŸ™‚
